BBC News: Wife Carrying Contest

Blogged in Humor on Tuesday October 12, 2004

The contest was to see who could carry their ‘wife’ (a woman, 16 years of age or older, not necessarily their wife) to the finish line first. The man would win some money and an equal ammount of beer as the weight of the woman he was carrying.

I saw this news item on KCal and just thought it was too funny that it made it on to the news, so I had to post it on here :)

Nice, Jonathan! I especially like this line “The festival originated in the 19th century when it was common practice in Finland to steal women from neighbouring villages.” Heh isn’t that the greatest?

Thanks! Yea, such good times. I was just kind of watching it in the background and saw it…and it was like, “hmm that’s kind of weird…I’ll post that on my site!”. Well, sory of … but some how it ended up here because I found it to be very funny. Stealing women…hmmm….that seems a little bit like what we do here on campus sometimes ::grin::
