Random Musings

Blogged in General, My Life, Music on Thursday March 31, 2005

I guess there hasn’t been much about my life a lot recently. I have been posting a lot of tech posts, but there has been a lot going on in the Technology world. My travels to Egypt and Spain delayed postings of my life too because I was gone for a week. But anyway, I’m back on track here. But being back on track after coming back from Egypt, my sleep patterns are still a little messed up. I woke up at 5:00am this morning….so this will be a long day for me.

Classes are going really well this semester for me. I feel confident about my grades this semester and that I’m doing well. I have been dating my girlfriend, Laura, for almost 5 months now. We just had our spring break and I went to Egypt and Spain. It really helped change my perspective on life. Going to a third world country really makes one appreciate the country they live in much more. I appreciate it so much more that I live in the US instead of a third world country. It’s truly a blessing to be able to live in a country like the US.

We have roughly 5 weeks left of school and then I will be back at home. I’m hoping to get an internship with a company so that I can start building my resume up and earn a little extra cash on the side too. I’m looking forward to summer. It’s a nice 4 months break from school and then get to return to a great semester. I’m thinking about registering for 4 major classes and one GE class. Two web classes and two Business Core classes. I really enjoy the business/web classes, so I am looking forward to it. I may end up double majoring because I will have so many units left over to finish my degree.

Keep checking back here, I will hopefully redesign this site a little bit, but I’m not sure, we’ll see if I have the time. Oh yeah, we have a concert coming up shortly. Small Boat Sinking, Tyrone Wells, and then the headliner Jars of Clay. I’m very excited for this concert and am looking forward to it. Megan and some of her friends are coming down along with my sister Jennifer. We will have a great time. There are still tickets if you live in the area and want to go.

Wordpress Banned by Google

Blogged in Wordpress, Google on Thursday March 31, 2005

The Real Nick W writes “Wordpress, an incredibly popular Open Source Blogging system was found to be spamming google by inserting hidden links to junk content on high paying Adsense keywords such as mesothelioma and debt consolidation. Following Threadwatch picking up the story an anonymous Google rep appeared in the original thread admonishing bloggers not to use sneaky tactics to rank highly for “duplicate content” such as the 100,000 hidden articles on the Wordpress site. The articles have now dissapeared from Google and it remains to be seen whether Google will ban Wordpress outright as they tend to do when SEO’s and web dev’s pull these kinds of stunts.”

Bad move for Wordpress and this makes me also kind of mad, but that’s life. I do want to debate the fact that Open Source implies that you are not out there to make money, but obviously Wordpress doesn’t seem to stay true with that. I am still a full supporter of Wordpress, but I think that Wordpress needs to take a better angle with this.

Wordpress Admin Theme Style

Blogged in Wordpress Themes on Wednesday March 30, 2005

As I was in a class today, I realized my blog admin style was very bland. So I did a search on the net for someone that had made a theme already for the administration side of Wordpress. Here is what I came up with. Listed are 3 different themes you can use (not all that have been made, but 3 that I found on google)

blueadmin

pinkadmin

greyadmin

You can find the complete article on these at: http://not-that-ugly.co.uk

Personal notes: It doesn’t validate CSS since the moz-border-radius doesn’t clear with w3, but that’s okay. I don’t use IE for this kind of stuff anyway. I personally use the grey admin becase I like it the most. It gives wordpress a better feel I think. A softer feeling. Check them out :)

Good job on the themes.

Gallery 2 - Beta 1 (Dark Fibre)

Blogged in Photos on Wednesday March 30, 2005

Recently I upgraded my photo gallery to a full test of the Gallery 2 Beta 1. I like the new gallery very much and will spend some time to customize the look of it within the next couple of the weeks if I find the time. If you have any suggestions of a theme that I could make or have a theme already made that you can suggest, please let me know.

I like customizing and implementing themes into gallery so I would be happy to do it for any design.

8.7 Earthquake

Blogged in News on Wednesday March 30, 2005

On Monday, there was yet again, another 8.7 earthquake. The quaker took place in Indonesia and happened early in the morning. I was actually in New York when I first heard about it happening. It seems that there have been many tremors and earth-shaking problems over in that part of the world recently.

The first of the two happened last December and earthquake specialists are saying that this is an ‘aftershock’ from the first. I personally wouldn’t think that this is an ‘aftershock’, but I’m not a specialist. It did not create a tsunami, but it did cause a lot of damage to homes and buildings over in Indonesia. They are in a great need for donates and support over there. You can donate any money at all to the support fund through World Vision.

Female Rap Artists

Blogged in General on Wednesday March 30, 2005

Carthik makes a good point…why aren’t there any female rap artists?
I only see male rap artists out there and that no females are very obvious as an artist. Not sure, but it’s obviously not just me.

Lasting Times

Blogged in College, My Life on Wednesday March 30, 2005

It’s been a while since I’ve been able to actually sit down and write an entry. I still don’t even have much time on my hands. Trying to figure out a summer job, finishing the semester here at school, and just living. A lot going on.

Things to do:

  • Post the logs from my trip to Europe & Africa
  • Finish the semester
  • Redesign my blog (maybe)
  • Confirm my job for this summer
  • Do research on cars
  • Live

Just a lot to do. Hopefully I’ll find time to do it….

Euro/Africa Images

Blogged in Travel on Sunday March 27, 2005

I had some extra time while here still in Egypt, so I decided to take the time and upload some new images. You may find the images in my gallery, here. There are roughly a new load of 150 images because I wanted to take plenty of images on this trip. Feel free to take a look if you want to, they are pleasent to see :)

Also, I will be posting the log of my trip some time next week. I have a busy schedule this coming week, so I will try to find the time. Hope you enjoy the pictures!

Spain Status

Blogged in Travel on Wednesday March 23, 2005

Hey folks! Quick update on my trip. My dad and I are currently at our friend’s house, the Cady’s, and we will be returning back to Madrid later today. We will be flying out of Spain into Egypt tomorrow morning and will then spend 4 days there until Monday morning, when we fly out to the USA again.

I am not going to say what we are doing on the trip quite yet, only because I will be posting a whole trip log later next week. I have been logging everyday and will continue to do so. I have taken many pictures as well, which will also be posted here. Keep checking back to see if I’ve posted anything new or to see whether or not I have posted the trip. Stay safe and keep our flight back in mind. What are your thoughts on Spain and travelling Europe? I would like to hear them! Thanks.

Service Outage

Blogged in College, My Life on Friday March 18, 2005

Starting back on umm I think it was Wednesday night, the Internet here at Azusa Pacific University, was down. We were able to access local network servers, such as apu.edu and den.apu.edu, but were unable to access any website outside of our network. Today, around 2 or 3:00pm, the service was restored and were able to again access websites.

Also, here at my living area, I am the last one here. My roommate left for San Francisco and won’t be back for a week. My other modmate left for Mexico for the week. I leave for Egypt in 2 days, so I’m very excited. The week is over now and I just have to move my sister home and then wait until Sunday morning. There will be a lack of updates until the 28th of March because I will be gone.

I hope everyone has a great Spring break (for those that are on it now). Stay safe.
