Hockey Unlocked

Blogged in Sports on Thursday July 14, 2005

Pending approval from both sides, the NHL has created a six-year agreement that will help the NHL to continue as normal.

The waiting may finally be over, but for the world’s most recognized hockey league and its players, an achingly long lockout has come with a price…

Backing Up Is Not Just For Cars

Blogged in Wordpress, Wordpress Dev on Tuesday July 12, 2005

Your WordPress database contains every post, every comment and every link you have on your blog. If your database gets erased or corrupted, you stand to lose everything you have written. There are many reasons why this could happen and not all are things you can control. But what you can do is backup your data. After all, it is important isn’t it?

WordPress Backup Week July 23-30 aims to help you become more familiar with the process of backing up and protecting your data.

Step-by-step backup instructions will be available in the online manual, the WordPress Codex, and support provided online in the WordPress Support Forum to
help you through the process.

Guides will be available to help you backup your WordPress site and database for a variety of systems and server software such as cPanel, DirectAdmin, Plesk and vDeck. Consider using this Backup Week as an incentive to backup all your valuable documents and software, too.

These guides will assist you in determining:

  • When and how to make backups.
  • How to make things right after an unexpected data loss befalls your
    WordPress database.

Making backups is essential because problems inevitably occur and you need to be in a position to take action when disaster strikes. Spending a few minutes to make an easy, convenient backup of your database will allow you to spend even more time being creative and productive with your website.

For more information or to help volunteer on this WordPress Community Event, see WordPress Backup Week.

Christian-Lyrics.net Soft Launch

Blogged in My Life, Code Development on Monday July 11, 2005

Today, James and I were able to finish up all the loose ends on our site that we are launching. We launched Christian-Lyrics.net, and by the name, you can obviously tell what is it. It’s a Christian lyrics website. You can view the forums and site at Christian-lyrics.net/forums.

We have many things to finish up before it’s ready for all the marketing and all the users, but we are just starting to get our name out there and build up our database.

We could thoroughly appreciate anyone that would give us a link back to www.christian-lyrics.net or write a post about us. We are new and want to start marketing ourselves, so all the advertising possible from anyone is very appreciated.

Macromedia - Breeze

Blogged in Geek on Friday July 8, 2005

As always, I was browsing the web again. I’ve writing some articles about AJAX and Flash and I hadn’t really looked further into the products of Macromedia. So I took a moment to go browse Macromedia.com and see what they were up to since the acquisition a few months ago. On the front page I see this new product called Breeze.

It seems that Breeze is a new part-flash integration product that lets you stream live video from sources and then use it as a meeting platform. I think this is a brilliant move for Macromedia because they were limiting themselves with Flash and this new product will give them the flexibility they need for the market. The technology today is growing faster than it ever has in the past and for a company to make in the industry, they have to be good. I think the Adobe+Macromedia team up is good for both companies so that they can share knowledge instead of battling for who gets the better product out faster.

I believe the product Breeze is a step forward for Macromedia. One of the top clients that is using Breeze today is SalesForce.com. I see good things in the future for Macromedia and I know they have the means to get there.

Google Maps + A9 Image Integration

Blogged in Code Development, Google on Friday July 8, 2005

As I was browsing the web I stumbled upon an article talking about A9 image integration with maps.google.com on this page: a9 Image+Google maps.

I think this concept is very interesting because I’m seeing more and more open source developers integrating different services together. I believe maps.google.com has a good future ahead of itself and that I see a9.com being a successful search engine as well. A9.com is, of course, powered by Amazon.com so it has a good team of coders behind it. I look forward to seeing what a9.com and google.com has in their future.

London Gets Hit Hard - 33 Dead

Blogged in News on Thursday July 7, 2005

I heard of this on the car ride to work this morning from my co-workers, so it was quite a shock to me. I did a little Google search and came up with this on MSN.com…

LONDON - At least 33 people were killed when three explosions ripped through London subway trains Thursday and an undetermined number were killed in a fourth explosion on a bus, officials said in what Prime Minister Tony Blair described as a “barbaric” terrorist attack.

U.S. law enforcement officials earlier said the death toll from the four blasts was at least 40.

Some 45 people were in serious or critical condition, London officials told reporters Thursday afternoon in describing the worst attack on London since World War II…

A Little Fun in the Office

Blogged in Humor on Thursday July 7, 2005

I was browsing around the web and stumbled upon this

OFFICE GAME

ONE-POINT DARES:

1) Run one lap around the office at top speed.
2) Ignore the first five people who say ‘good morning’ to you.
3) Phone someone in the office you barely know, leave your name and say,”Just called to say I can’t talk right now. Bye.”

4) To signal the end of a conversation, clamp your hands over your ears and grimace.
5) Leave your zipper open for one hour. If anyone points it out, say, “Sorry, I really prefer it this way.”
6) Walk sideways to the photocopier.
7) While riding in an elevator, gasp dramatically every time the doors open.

THREE-POINT DARES:

1) Say to your boss, “I like your style” and shoot him with double-barreled fingers.
2) Babble incoherently at a fellow employee then ask, “Did you get all that, I don’t want to have to repeat it.”
3) Page yourself over the intercom (do not disguise your voice).
4) Kneel in front of the water cooler and drink directly from the nozzle (there must be a ‘non-player’ within sight).
5) Shout random numbers while someone is counting.
