IEBlog : Standards and CSS in IE

Blogged in Geek, Code Development on Monday August 8, 2005

IEBlog : Standards and CSS in IE
In addition we’ve added support for the following

* HTML 4.01 ABBR tag
* Improved (though not yet perfect) fallback
* CSS 2.1 Selector support (child, adjacent, attribute, first-child etc.)
* CSS 2.1 Fixed positioning
* Alpha channel in PNG images
* Fix :hover on all elements
* Background-attachment: fixed on all elements not just body

It’s about time. IE 7.0 still presents a lot of problems with CSS and functionality, but they have come a lot closer and makes life a little easier on us web developers. Yet still, many things go unsupported and leave us in a crutch to still create a separate IE specific CSS style sheet in order to give IE the functionality it needs. They are still just slowly making progress.

Time, Web Development…travels…I think there’s time to live in there…

Blogged in General, My Life, News, Code Development on Monday August 8, 2005

My life has been crazy busy, crazy busy, crazy busy in the past few months. I have had sooooo much to do on my plate.

James and I have been working non-stop on Christian-lyrics.net with database entry, backend user database logistics, and much much more. There are so many good things planned for it. We are hoping to launch towards the end of August, a full launch. Right now we are in the soft launch stages, gathering affiliates and still inputting the data. Much work to get done, but we are VERY excited for it. We have a lot in store and still only a few weeks before our deadlines.

On top of that, I have about 5 other sites I’m starting up and managing. Cobs.net, equip4college.com, a private blog that isn’t released yet, I still have to manage this blog (sorry for the lack of updates everyone! I’m explaining why right now), and I have a few other sites I’m working on as well.

My life has just been crazy busy lately and I haven’t had much time to just chill. I drive to Santa Barbara everyday for work so that takes an hour of my time and then the rest of the time I’m working on web development to bring these sites to life.

I will be posting more about the trip up to Washington this past weekend, hopefully at some point this week if I find the time. But we had a GREAT time and the wedding was a blast. I got to meet a lot of new people and it was really good. It’s usually pretty decent weather when I visit up there, but it was really hot this time, oh well.

That’s all for now….zzzz I need sleep =p

Photo Gallery 2 - Beta 4 Flippin’ Sweet

Blogged in Photos, Code Development on Saturday July 23, 2005

Gallery writes..

This is the fourth and final installment in the Gallery 2 beta cycle. In the past two months we’ve made huge improvements to the product. After this, we’re going to be making only minor changes as we head into release candidates and then the final version! As with the rest of the beta cycle, we support upgrading from Gallery 2 Alpha 4 or newer.

This is a stable and reliable technology release. It has almost all of the features of Gallery 1, and many many new features that Gallery 1 lacks. We encourage you to download the latest code and play with it! Before you ask for help, please, please read the README — we’ve made an effort to answer all of your questions there. Especially read the known issues section. If you’re upgrading, be sure to scan the instructions first (it’s really easy). Then head on over to the G2 Forums and let us know what you think!

The more feedback you give us now, the better the final version of G2 will be. Thanks for your continued support!

Christian-Lyrics.net Soft Launch

Blogged in My Life, Code Development on Monday July 11, 2005

Today, James and I were able to finish up all the loose ends on our site that we are launching. We launched Christian-Lyrics.net, and by the name, you can obviously tell what is it. It’s a Christian lyrics website. You can view the forums and site at Christian-lyrics.net/forums.

We have many things to finish up before it’s ready for all the marketing and all the users, but we are just starting to get our name out there and build up our database.

We could thoroughly appreciate anyone that would give us a link back to www.christian-lyrics.net or write a post about us. We are new and want to start marketing ourselves, so all the advertising possible from anyone is very appreciated.

Google Maps + A9 Image Integration

Blogged in Code Development, Google on Friday July 8, 2005

As I was browsing the web I stumbled upon an article talking about A9 image integration with maps.google.com on this page: a9 Image+Google maps.

I think this concept is very interesting because I’m seeing more and more open source developers integrating different services together. I believe maps.google.com has a good future ahead of itself and that I see a9.com being a successful search engine as well. A9.com is, of course, powered by Amazon.com so it has a good team of coders behind it. I look forward to seeing what a9.com and google.com has in their future.

Web Development and Management

Blogged in Code Development on Tuesday July 5, 2005

To give you an update on my web life, I’d like to first start off by saying that I’ve recently gotten into the domain reselling business. I sold whoismyhost.com not too long ago and I’m in the process of selling xdef.org. I have a long list of domains if you’re viewing this and are interested in them. They include..

  • apulife.com
  • breespecialist.com
  • glorydivine.com
  • halflifetalk.com
  • justfragit.com
  • knever.com
  • neighblogs.com
  • sciencekb.com
  • seashorecafe.com
  • socalwine.com
  • transferid.com
  • edfraft.net

and many others. Feel free to contact me regarding any of these at info[AT]toplevel.biz

In other development ways…I’ve been in the process of developing http://www.christian-lyrics.net. A Christian Lyrics website, obvious by its name. We’re in the middle of coding the back end to the website and in process of finishing the redesign for it. We are planning on a soft-launch on Friday to start to get our name out there, so you can expect to see the website live this weekend. We are hoping to do a full launch by the end of August, so you can expect everything to be into full swing about that time. Keep checking back for more updates!

Feel free to contact me if you’re interested in helping with the PHP back end of it. jdingmanATgmail.com
