Switchfoot last night

Blogged in Concerts, Music on Saturday July 8, 2006

I drove all the way down to Costa Mesa last night with my friend Megan so we could see Lit and Switchfoot LIVE and it was amazing. Long drive down due to traffic, took us about 3 hours to get down there, but we made it JUST in time for Switchfoot which made it completely worth driving for. It wasn’t too expensive and it was a REALLY good concert..they really know how to put on a show!

Josh Kelley - In Concert LIVE - in California

Blogged in Concerts on Friday July 29, 2005

About a week ago, I won two free admission passes to see Josh Kelley live. At the time, I knew of his hit single, but didn’t really know a lot about him. So I started looking stuff up and researching it a little bit and listening to his music. As the week progressed, I became even more excited. My friend Megan was able to join me at the concert.

Josh on Guitar

This is the first time that he has played his new album tracks live, so we were able to get a sneak peek at all his new stuff. Let me just say, it sounds awesome! His new CD, Almost Honest, is coming out mid-August and I’m excited for it.

So you may ask what the whole concert thing was. Well, it was something called a B Lounge put on by B 95.1 and was hosted in Port Hueneme, CA. OceanView Pavilion helped host the show and it was simply amazing. There were about 25 or so of us there that had won these passes to go see him. So we showed up and hung out for a bit, around 6:30pm tonight. Around 7:00ish, we started to go in and grabbed a bite to eat.

After a bit, they started the show. He played a few songs and then started talking a bit. A few questions were asked.

Do you have any pre-show things that you like to do?

Josh Kelley: No..not really. I guess the only thing I like to do is to pump up my adrenaline and get my blood flowin’ or something…like doing push ups or something like that. Also stuff that I obviously can’t release..cuz that’s just band stuff, ya know…

He played a couple more new songs and an old song. He hopped on the piano too for a little bit.

He stopped…and went back for another song on the guitar. He went for a couple more questions after.

Are you scared of dentists?

Josh Kelley: Nawww not at all. But yeah, you said you’re a dentist office worker? Yeah, I started having this bad tooth ache .. it was like last night….you’re off duty right? You think you could help me this or something? Haha…well one of the things that does scare me is when I’m dreaming and I’m falling. Falling..just falling, yeah, that scares me

He stopped and then we went go sign some stuff and take pictures with him.

The time was truly amazing. Just a few of us and were able to just hang out with him and have fun. It was good to hear some of his new stuff and get to meet him and hang. It was awesome! Thanks B 95.1!

Follow up…

While at the concert, he spoke specifically about one of his songs and explained it. He explained his song Only You, the hit single that he’s pushing out right now. The song starts to describe his experience while touring in Australia. He was at a bar and he was hanging out with some girls and they were wearing, really next to nothing. He continued on to talk about in the song that “you started it, don’t you dare act surprised. You know what is on my mind”. He says this because the girls know what is on his mind when they’re wearing it. He talks about the ‘game’. The women know the game, “they’re wearing it”, as he says in his song. It’s partially a shame to know that women (some, don’t ever get the impression I am saying this about all women) can sometimes play innocent and then expect us guys not to react to what they wear.

Life in the fast lane

First off, I just want to start off by saying I just wrote a LONG post and it just got erased. But anyway, I will start the real post.

My life has been REALLY crazy lately. Very crazy. So much going on that I don’t even know what to do. Mid-terms are this week. I had my English mid-term today and my Psychology mid-term tomorrow. So please be praying for me that it goes well (at 2:30pm). After the psych mid-term, I’m going to pick up some tickets to the Jars of Clay concert here at APU, so I am excited for that as well.

My crazyness has been due to school work and getting everything done. I have been getting a lot of my work done early so that I do not have to be stressing about them the day they are due. This is sort of a new idea for me and I am enjoying it a lot. Getting my accounting and Exodus/Deuteronomy done was such a relief. I feel like my weekend was spent getting my homework done, which is okay though. That is the reason I am at school here, right? Anyway, my classes are going well so I’m happy about that.

In my web life, well that is a different story altogether. Recently a High School teacher called me up and asked for my help in a business venture that she wants to start up online. So I am adding this to my plate in the next coming months. Along side of that, I recently was e-mailed by a small local APU band here, to do their site. I’m gladly going to accept it if they choose to use me. But to top it off, I’m still working on the COBS site. My load for COBS was taken off a little bit by a gentlemen in Singapore and he is helping me with the content management system that we will be using, that is good news to me. This is one of the reasons that I have not had time to post on here at all, I’ve just been so busy.

In the mist of all this, I am supposed to live. I am supposed to go to classes and still be able to stay healthy. I feel that I have been sick for the past couple of weeks, so I’m going to try to cool down a little bit. Also, GREAT news about my sister. I’M GOING TO BE AN UNCLE!!! I am sooooo excited for her. I have been dreaming of the day that I could one day make the same impact my uncles had on my life, to my future nephews/nieces.

And finally to top off this post, I am prepping for my trip to Egypt and Spain. We will get to visit an organization called Open Doors of Brother Andrews and see some old friends that I met while visiting Holland. I am VERY excited for this trip and look forward to it with much excitement in mind. I will try to keep a daily log of what we do and post it on here when I get back, but we’ll see how possible that will be. I will definitely be taking A LOT of pictures though, so prepare for some pictures when I get back!

I pray everyone is doing well. Sorry if I haven’t had much time to talk to anyone or stay in contact, but as you read, my life has been busy.

Small Boat Sinking

Blogged in Concerts on Tuesday February 1, 2005

This past weekend I attended a concert put on by Small Boat Sinking. The band is composed a lot of my friends that I’ve gotten to know over the past almost 2 years. They played right after the Azusa vs. Biola game at 10pm at Smart City Grinds. It was a very good concert and SBS said that they would have a CD out by the end of the semester. My friend whom I work with with sound in chapels, Dale Becker, is helping produce the CD for them. If you ever get a chance to see them play, I highly recommend going. This band has changes names recently from Quality Vinyl to Small Boat Sinking, so if you hear of QV, they are the same band. You may also want to look them up on MySpace.com

Got Switchfoot?

Blogged in Concerts on Thursday November 18, 2004

I do! My feet last night were groovin’ to the beats of Honerable Mention, The Format, and SWITCHFOOT! Live in concert from the Wiltern in Los Angeles, CA. Last night was the better performance by Switchfoot that I have seen. They were just simply amazing…playing every song I was hoping they would play. My guest, or should say date, for the night, was none other than the beautiful, the wise, Miss Laura. Yes, my lovely girlfriend joined me and we both went to the concert. It was quite a way to hit off the beginning of the middle of the week. Good times on Wednesday night! Well, my rest of the week is booked with homework and a date with Laura. So I’ll hit back soon somtime. Have a great Thursday!
