Time, Web Development…travels…I think there’s time to live in there…

Blogged in General, My Life, News, Code Development on Monday August 8, 2005

My life has been crazy busy, crazy busy, crazy busy in the past few months. I have had sooooo much to do on my plate.

James and I have been working non-stop on Christian-lyrics.net with database entry, backend user database logistics, and much much more. There are so many good things planned for it. We are hoping to launch towards the end of August, a full launch. Right now we are in the soft launch stages, gathering affiliates and still inputting the data. Much work to get done, but we are VERY excited for it. We have a lot in store and still only a few weeks before our deadlines.

On top of that, I have about 5 other sites I’m starting up and managing. Cobs.net, equip4college.com, a private blog that isn’t released yet, I still have to manage this blog (sorry for the lack of updates everyone! I’m explaining why right now), and I have a few other sites I’m working on as well.

My life has just been crazy busy lately and I haven’t had much time to just chill. I drive to Santa Barbara everyday for work so that takes an hour of my time and then the rest of the time I’m working on web development to bring these sites to life.

I will be posting more about the trip up to Washington this past weekend, hopefully at some point this week if I find the time. But we had a GREAT time and the wedding was a blast. I got to meet a lot of new people and it was really good. It’s usually pretty decent weather when I visit up there, but it was really hot this time, oh well.

That’s all for now….zzzz I need sleep =p

Photo Gallery 2 - Beta 4 Flippin’ Sweet

Blogged in Photos, Code Development on Saturday July 23, 2005

Gallery writes..

This is the fourth and final installment in the Gallery 2 beta cycle. In the past two months we’ve made huge improvements to the product. After this, we’re going to be making only minor changes as we head into release candidates and then the final version! As with the rest of the beta cycle, we support upgrading from Gallery 2 Alpha 4 or newer.

This is a stable and reliable technology release. It has almost all of the features of Gallery 1, and many many new features that Gallery 1 lacks. We encourage you to download the latest code and play with it! Before you ask for help, please, please read the README — we’ve made an effort to answer all of your questions there. Especially read the known issues section. If you’re upgrading, be sure to scan the instructions first (it’s really easy). Then head on over to the G2 Forums and let us know what you think!

The more feedback you give us now, the better the final version of G2 will be. Thanks for your continued support!

The Legal Drinking Age in America

Blogged in General on Wednesday June 22, 2005

Today in #Wordpress there was a heated discussion regarding the matter of the legal drinking age of 21 in America. Many things were brought up and I thought it would be a good idea to post about it and give my opinions on it.

One of the items brought up is that an American citizen, over the age of 18, is allowed to sign their life away to the US Army and die for our country, but they still wouldn’t be allowed to drink alcohol. I realize that life isn’t about drinking, believe me, I don’t think that at all, but I see that it’s a bit unfair to the troops.

That is just one argument and I can see many pros and cons to this discussion.

A few of the cons of having a lower drinking age limit are more drunk driver accidents, possibly more shooting crimes related to alcohol, and there are many more to list. There are a bunch of things that could go wrong if the drinking age was lowered simply because it would be easier to get a hold of for people younger than 21. I think that the government has the age set to 21 right now simply because they want people to learn how to be at least a little bit responsible first before being allowed to drink.

On the other hand in Holland and other nations the drinking age limit is set much lower and the driving age is set much higher. I can see how this works for them because they are usually smaller nations (land wise not population) and they can ride their bikes or walk places. But in the US most people drive, so it is understandable how the legal age to drink is set above the legal age of driving.

I see much discussion here and I think it’s quite interesting how many times this actually comes up. Penny for your thoughts?

BleakGeek.com Site Transition

Blogged in News, Geek, Wordpress, Photos on Saturday June 11, 2005

I’ve been trying to fix http://photos.bleakgeek.com all day today, but it seems that it doesn’t want to be fixed quite yet. I’ve been migrating over from an old server so a lot of things are still broken. Sorry for the mess, I will try to clean it up as soon as possible (sometime this week).

All my sites have been successfully switched over, but I’m still working on modifying them slightly to get them functioning properly. My webhost is being a bit slaggish right now too with some tech responses, but I’ll try to get them to speed up on that.

I’ve been talking with Kaylie a lot more lately and it was been good. I’m hoping to go see her in July, so we’ll see how that goes. Work starts up again on Monday, as it will every week…bah! Oh well, it’s money and it helps pay the bills. Work is fun at times, but other times boring. It’s good experience.

[Feel free to let me know if something is still broken because I’m sure there are plenty of messes around in my area]

Gallery 2 - Beta 3 (Bingo!)

Blogged in Geek, Photos on Wednesday May 18, 2005

Recently, Gallery released another version of it’s software that I run. They released this beta with many new features that I love. A lot of custom administration work and a lot of backend coding for the main gallery itself. They have really outdone themselves this time and it’s still only in its beta stages!

They have been developing this software for the past 4 years and it has finally begun to come out into production. This is a time a lot of us in the digital photography world has been waiting for. I eagerly await the next beta as I’m sure more great features will keep being added to it. Congradulations and good job!

A fav…
