Google Music Store Online

Blogged in Geek, Google on Tuesday June 21, 2005

I recently read about the release of Google and their own music store. They are creating an ‘iTunes clone’ type site, such as Rhapsody or Napster.com, all to sell music. Google has the following now: Google Video, Google Maps, Google News, Google Search, Google E-Mail (Gmail), Google Images, Google Price Matcher (Froogle.com), Google Groups, Google Directory, Google Scholar (for education searches), Google Movie Listing, and there are plenty more sites about google being added everyday. It is extremely insane how far Google has come and where they still have to go.

BleakGeek.com Site Transition

Blogged in News, Geek, Wordpress, Photos on Saturday June 11, 2005

I’ve been trying to fix http://photos.bleakgeek.com all day today, but it seems that it doesn’t want to be fixed quite yet. I’ve been migrating over from an old server so a lot of things are still broken. Sorry for the mess, I will try to clean it up as soon as possible (sometime this week).

All my sites have been successfully switched over, but I’m still working on modifying them slightly to get them functioning properly. My webhost is being a bit slaggish right now too with some tech responses, but I’ll try to get them to speed up on that.

I’ve been talking with Kaylie a lot more lately and it was been good. I’m hoping to go see her in July, so we’ll see how that goes. Work starts up again on Monday, as it will every week…bah! Oh well, it’s money and it helps pay the bills. Work is fun at times, but other times boring. It’s good experience.

[Feel free to let me know if something is still broken because I’m sure there are plenty of messes around in my area]

Site Downtime

Blogged in Geek on Friday June 10, 2005

This site will be down for a period of time today because I’m switching packages on my host and I will be moving my sites around. Please forgive the downtime and the site will be up as soon as possible.

Update: Site is currently in transition and commenting has been disabled until the move is complete. Expect the site to be back in normal and stable conditions sometime tomorrow night. (June 9th ~9:00pm)

Latest Update on 06/10/05: The site is now back ONLINE and the DNS is updating. It took some straggling, but I finally got it owkring :)

Java Velocity Ant and Work

Blogged in Geek on Tuesday June 7, 2005

As most of you know, I’ve recently started a job up in Santa Barbara at a company called Commission Junction. I’m really enjoying the time up here and I think it will be very good for my business career. There are a lot of smart people up here at Commission Junction. The company was bought not too long ago by a company called ValueClick and the headquarters for ValueClick are no where else, but in Westlake, CA (almost my hometown).

This experience for the summer, working until the end of August, will be very good for me. Not only is it good money, but I’m getting to meet a lot of new people and bring a lot of experience into my life working for a secular company as well as a great company. The Lord has brought many good things for this summer so I’m hoping to have a blast. The summer has already been kicked off with seeing a lot of my great friends, so I am very excited!

Summer of Code 2005

Blogged in Geek, Google on Friday June 3, 2005

Google has recently announced that they are sponsoring an Open Source code ‘fest’ for the summer. Each applicant (must be a student) will apply to each project designated by Google and then a team member of each project will track the success and progress of each student along the way.

You ask why Google is doing this? Simple, to bring out the developers of the Open Source world. What’s the catch? No catch, just some Open Source experience and $4500 in your pocket.

Read more about it here.

Personal Opinion: I think it’s a great idea and I’m really happy for Google that they are able to sponsor such an event. It’s about time the Open Source world got some publicity. Go Summer Code 2005! Summer Code! Summer Code! GO GO GO!

San Francisco

Blogged in My Life, Geek, Travel on Saturday May 28, 2005

I’m up in San Francisco and Oakland right now with my dad. We went to a Giant’s game today vs. the Padres and the Padres won. Too bad because that still puts the Padres into first place. We are going to church in Sacramento tomorrow at a church called Bayside and then I’m driving up to Yuba City to see some friends from APU, so it should be a good weekend!!

On a side note, I recently purchased some more domains that I will soon be releasing as a list of domains I am selling. I’m into the domain business now if you didn’t know, so I purchase a lot of domains in hope that one day someone will buy them. I have a current sale pending, so hopefully this will take off for me. I just purchased 4 more tonight which comes to a total of 18 domains. More news to come on this once I get them all setup.

KHTML for Windows

Blogged in Geek on Monday May 23, 2005

In recent web development projects, I’ve come to notice there are no KHTML browsers suitable for Windows. I’ve done much research to try to find one that works under Windows (XP/98/2000) or any of the sort, but have been unable to find one. I’ve tried KDE based Cygwin projects and looked at the KHTML Win32 project that seems to be dead now too.

I’ve tried to get Konqueror for windows or even just a port of it, but have had no such luck. If anyone has seen a port of a KHTML browser for windows, I would surely be happy to hear of it and see one.

Tech Baton

Blogged in Geek on Thursday May 19, 2005

Well, you know what goes on in my music life, so I thought I would give an insight to my tech life as well.

What was the the last ‘tech’ item you bought?
Some JBL Speakers that I love, they are awesome!

What’s the last online purchase you made and from where?
I can’t be sure if it was the DLO iPod charger + fm transmitter or the JBL speakers, so either newegg.com or ebay.com

Are you going to e3? Do you know what e3 is?
Oh man, I wish I was going, that would be awesome! Yeah, e3 is the ‘electronic entertainment expo‘.

What’s your favorite video game?
Well, since I don’t really play games anymore…that’s a tough one. I would have to say Halo on xbox or pc, but I’m really just waiting for xbox 360 to come out, that is going to be awesome as well. It comes out in November this year, I’m excited.

Who are you passing this on to?
